Description
The selection of weapons in this exhibition of Luc Lefebvre collection primarily the result of an aesthetic concerns. This collection is not an exhaustive list of all types of weapons manufactured and used in Central Africa. The attraction of the author for these objects is primarily related to the beauty of their form, related to values, depending on beliefs, but also to use, marking their membership of an ethnic group. Bracketing ethnographic knowledge to consider only the beauty of pure forms and the interplay of materials release a new look that creates emotion. It is not surprising that art defined as “negro” at the beginning of the last century has accompanied artists attracted by an abstract desire. This type of collection requires asking questions and prompts to search for the original ethnic groups and their migrations, their geographic location, their natural environments, their customs, their relationship with neighboring tribes … for a better understanding of the manufacture of weapons , their customs and rituals attached to them.
