Unveiled a heritage – Made from the late nineteenth century and the 1980s, the collection of African art museum of Grenoble is woven at the confluence of colonial history, ethnography and history of African art . When the city shapes its empire, officers and colonial administrators relate their missions and stays a set of parts – masks and statues, objects of everyday life and weapons – that illustrate the perspective on the sub-Saharan African cultures. The African object is defined as a “primitive” object, but it becomes a source of study: it is museumified as ethnographic object.
