Lavishly illustrated catalog of a traveling exhibition that began in Kestner Gesellschaft in Hannover in 1997 via Vienna, Munich and Iowa City and was completed in 2000 at Neuberger Museum of Art in New York. “Kilengi” is a Bantu term that can mean a single word and expresses the joy resulting from the beauty that is revealed in the light. This is the first time that Walter Bareiss Collection is shown to the public. The works presented come and relate to the essential, the eastern part of Africa including: Tanzania, South East and South Central Africa and then the northeast of the Congo (formerly Zaire ) and finally the whole of West Africa.
