Description

This beautifully illustrated book of over 190 color reproductions, some in full-page brings together carvings, masks, statues, statuettes, musical instruments, weapons and insignia of authority and prestige in the ancient kingdoms of Central Africa and whose life, punctuated over the kingdoms depended on a series of rituals based on specific events, such as birth, circumcision, initiation, marriage, investiture, crowning, war, alliance, sickness, death, burial, etc … All these rituals were closely linked to the worship of spirits and especially to ancestor worship, especially the principle of lineages where each had its founding ancestor altar and sculptures representing the or materialize a highlight his reign.
