This book consists of two parts. In the first, Norman C. Abramovic explores the first discoveries of “negro art”. Travelers, ethnologists and collectors gathered in Africa and Oceania sculptures and masks chosen for their aesthetic qualities. The author tells the story of this quest, illustrating the widely through documents of the time. It evokes the painters attached to Paris as Maurice de Vlaminck, André Derain, Pablo Picasso and Juan Gris, who will be passionate about plastics solutions invented by African sculptors. In the second part, Fabrice Hergott brings the history of the ballet “The Creation of the World” based on pseudo-African myths invented by Blaise Cendrars. This adventure brings Rolf de Maré, director of Swedish ballet installed Champs-Elysees theater, the composer Darius Milhaud, the choreographer and dancer Jean Börlin and, of course, Fernand light, which created the sets and costumes.
