Description
This book is part of a series of work to expose the French ethnographic materials collected in the Sudan, among the Dogon of the Bandiagara Cliffs, in the Griaule missions (Dakar-Djibouti in 1936/1937 – Sahara Sudan in 1935 – Sahara Cameroon in 1936/1937) and Lebaudy–Griaule (Niger-Lac Iro 1938/1939). These works relate in particular to religious institutions of this population. These currencies will also grant to mythical beings, animals, certain objects and, in general, anything that carries vital force (nyama). Their declamation on this strength direct effect, comparable in some way to that of sacrifice. It therefore seemed useful to publish on currency Dogon a particular study that deals with the most important aspect of the “nyama” fundamental notion of the religion of the people of Niger cliffs.
