Description
Benue is the largest tributary of the Niger River, which runs through the center of Nigeria. Following the course of the river in the footsteps of the early explorers, “Nigeria, Arts of the Benue Valley” offers a spectacular journey along its banks in its lower regions, medium and high. Remarkable sculptures, wood, ceramic or metal are presented here: maternity and female statues in the round, masks, helmets human face, anthropo-zoomorphic masks horizontal, curative terracotta containers and regalia finely developed. These works highlight the diversity of community traditions of the region and freedom vis-à-vis local artists stylistic codes.
