In this year celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the first African independence, worlds Course offers, in partnership with the Monnaie de Paris, an exhibition entitled “Ode to the great African art: Statues Also Die” to be held from September 8 to October 2, 2010 . Built around the eponymous short film directed by Alain Resnais and Chris Marker in 1953, this ambitious event will rediscover icons of African art and the eyes of two great authors on a decidedly different art where “man n is never separated from the world “(Marker). It will highlight the accents vanguard of this film and will trace the unique history that lives to unite in a passionate affair talent of two great directors and the eyes of the most important collectors of the time such Tristan Tzara and René Rasmussen. For the first time, some of the works presented in this film and now kept in major museums (Barbier-Mueller, Dapper, etc.) and private collections will be collected and displayed in an exhibition on the sidelines of the distribution of the film loop in the halls of the Paris Mint. They will be accompanied by many large format prints of the film frames, to highlight the work of composition and interpretation Ghislain Cloquet, director of photography, who received in 1981 the Oscar for Best Cinematography for his work on Tess. A richly illustrated catalog will include all of the parts used in film and trace their history and their importance in the development of the recognition of African art.
