Description
Publish a book on Easter Island, the subject is obviously exceptional and exciting, but so many things have already been said or written that we must engage in it carefully. The project of this book has the ambition to contribute to a better knowledge of the history of this island, its people and their artistic production. Our choice fell on this very homogeneous group and including most types of wood carved Art Easter Islander, together in one and very old collection, preserved in the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary SS.CC in Rome. Catherine & Michel Orliac, archaeologists, researchers at CNRS, we propose a refined and original approach to what was this island, the organization of this complex society and its singular art.
