Description

This fascinating monograph is an important ethnographic account of Mt. Wantoat Finisterre, with a particular emphasis on the aesthetics of ritual process. The author actively address the idea of symbolism itself in the indigenous ritual, rejecting several overly simple polarities of structural anthropology for a metaphysical approach. Excellent ethnography and a beautiful visual document. Based on a survey conducted in 1955 and 1956, Carl A. Schmitz explores how religion in Papua Northeast New Guinea reveals the forms in their art.
